Researchers have found that having paid staff at a farmers market correlates to a more effective nutrition incentive. Yet many farmers markets are unable to afford to pay a market manager and thus, have difficulty running an incentive program. Community Farm Alliance’s Farmers Market Support Program helps fund a market manager through a market manager cost-share program. The Market Manager Cost Share (MMCS) Grant Program is a 1:1 cost-share for helping Kentucky markets fund a market manager. MMCS grant recipients are also eligible for technical support from CFA FMSP staff. This page describes the program, and may offer a valuable example for other regions where programs like this one are needed.
